Nate Berkus joins Pinterest

Nate Berkus launches his Pinterest profile with the help of bloggers at Random House's Power Reader Breakfast on June 6.

Author and product designer, Nate Berkus launched his official Pinterest profile yesterday with the help of hundreds of bloggers at Random House’s Power Reader Breakfast. The event, which coincided with BookExpo America, highlighted Berkus’ upcoming book, THE THINGS THAT MATTER.

Berkus’ profile as a leading design authority already made him a popular fixture on Pinterest, but his official presence on the fast-growing social network will allow him to interact more personally with Pinterest’s 20 million users.

“I live and breathe design. It’s what I do for my job, but, more importantly, it’s what I do in my free time. Sites like Pinterest are built for people like me. It’s where we go to get inspired and get ideas. It’s where we go to share what we love,” explained Berkus.

For his first Pinterest board, Berkus chose a topic that is close to his heart and mirrors the topic of his next book, THE THINGS THAT MATTER, due out this fall. He pinned his Top 10 Favorite items around his own home.  They’re the things that matter most to him and say a bit about who he is. ”I believe your home should tell your story.  The way you do that is through your things,” explains Berkus.  ”They might look like a tapestry, pineapple and woven portrait to you, but to me they’re my most treasured items. Not for their value, but for their meaning.  That’s why things matter, they bring meaning into our homes and allow our interiors to feel rich and storied.”

Already engaged with fans on Twitter (@Nate_Berkus) and Facebook, Pinterest is another way for Berkus to carry on a conversation about his favorite topic of design with his fans.

Part design manifesto, part memoir, Berkus’ THE THINGS THAT MATTER will highlight his design philosophies through personal, moving stories about influential experiences and what inspires him. THE THINGS THAT MATTER will be published by Spiegel & Grau, a division of The Random House Publishing Group, on October 16.
